Election Commission of India launched its Electors Verification Programme on Sunday. The program aims to provide updating of electoral rolls through crowdsourcing. It will act a one-stop solution to authenticate voter’s details.

Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa said that the program will help in enriching the voter process in the democratic country like India. It is expected that the program will improve the interaction between Election commission and people. The major idea is to enhance the accuracy of electoral details.

At a press conference organized in the national capital, Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ranbir Singh said that a voter from each family will get a username and password that will allow him/her to upload all the documents related to electoral registration and tag similar details about his/her family members.

The program will be launched at all levels. It will see its initiation from the state/UT headquarters by 32 CEOs and by 740 district electoral officers and by BLO (at Block level) and electoral registration officers in around one million electoral stations. The program will gradually go through distict level and block level. The process is expected to complete by 15 October.

It has been reported that the final draft will be published by the first or second week of January.

Steps to access the Electors Verification Programme-

  1. It can be accessed in both offline and online mode.
  2. For online mode, a voter has to go to the NVSP website (nvsp.in) and do the required registration. He can also log onto Voter helpline mobile app of the Election Commission.
  3. For offline mode, voters can go to any voter’s center or access one of the CSCs (Common Service Centres).
  4. Data can be authenticated through various documents such as-
  • Indian Passport
  • Driving License
  • Identity card for Government/Semi-Government Officials
  • Bank Passbooks
  • Aadhaar Card
  • Ration Card
  • Farmer’s Identity Card
  • PAN Card
  • Smart Card issued by RGI
  • Latest bill for water/electricity/telephone/gas connection.

5. Scanned copies of the above documents can be used from Digilocker also.
