While complaints erupted that every vote in the polling booth in Chowara in Kovalam went to the BJP, BJP state chief Kummanam Rajashekaran ordered a probe into the issue.

Kerala state BJP chief Kummanam Rajashekharan ordered a probe into the alleged faulty EVMs in kovalam in Thiruvananthapuram district. It was alleged that the votes done for UDF went to BJP in its ‘lotus’ symbol. It was in no. 151 booth that the alleged fault in EVM was found out. The alleged malfunctioning came to notice after a lot of people voted from the polling booth. Congress MP from Thiruvanathapuram Shashi Tharoor also mentioned about the alleged EVM malfunctioning in his talk to the regional media.

Speaking on general elections and on the alleged EVM malfunctioning in Chowara, Shashi Tharoor said, “We need politics of development, not of religion, caste or creed. I am sure people will vote for that party which delivers this promise of a secular government. Everyone should make sure that their vote goes for their desired party. Any voting machine can have malfunctioning but how does the machine always favour the lotus symbol after a voter votes for the party? That is something to be investigated,” he said.

Party workers of both the UDF and LDF protested against this fault. The workers said that the polling conducted till now should be checked with VVPAT slips so as to ensure that the vote actually went for only BJP or other parties as well.
