Today was the 40th edition of PM’s radio programme since its inception in 2014. In his first ‘Mann ki Baat’ for the year 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on a wide range of topics, starting with ‘women empowerment’.

Highlights of “Man Ki Baat”

He began his address with a long letter by one Prakash Tripathi. In his letter, Tripathi wrote about Kalpana Chawla. PM Modi said that Chawla inspired women all over the world.

Narendra Modi Said  –

“Women are advancing in many fields, emerging as leaders. Today there are many sectors where our woman power is playing a pioneering role, establishing milestones.”

  • It is in our culture to respect women. In our ancient Sanskrit teachings, it is stated that the blessings we get from the Almighty if we have one baby girl is equal to that of having 10 baby boys
  • If India has to progress and reach new heights, it can only be possible only if and when women walk shoulder-to-shoulder with men, and in fact, lead the way.
  • He says he is happy that non-resident Indians are not only serving the countries they are in but also contributing immensely to India.
  • Modi says there’s now transparency in Padma awards. Anyone can nominate names and a common man can also be cited for Padma awards without any recommendations.
  •  He talked about Mangesh from Maharashtra who shared a photograph on the NM Mobile App, of an elderly person and a young child taking part in the movement to clean the Morna river.

He further spoke about Padma awards, “I am sure you all felt proud after reading about the Padma Awards. We have honored those who may not be seen in big cities but have done transformative work for society. On 30th January we observe the Punya Tithi of Bapu. Peace and non-violence are what Bapu taught us. His ideas are extremely relevant today.”
