Giving a new twist to the battle of Haryana polls, former Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ashok Tanwar extended his support to the Jannayak Janata Party led by Dushyant Chautala. Ashok Tanwar had called this as a surgical strike on Congress party.

The leader also addressed a press conference with Dushyant Chautala where he supported the candidature of Dushyant Chautala as the next CM of the state. He said that his workers want to support JJP. He further slammed his former party for promoting “some arrogant people” at the party.” He further said, “I have laid down the land mine for enemies and this is the first surgical strike on them.

He has also announced to back senior Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Singh Chautala on the Ellenabad seat. Speaking to News18, he said, “Abhay came to meet me at my residence at Sirsa in the evening. I consulted my supporters. I said if they have decided to support him (Abhay) on one seat (Ellenabad), then I have no issues.

Earlier, Ashok Tanwar had resigned from Congress after he was sidelined from the list of candidates for Haryana polls. He had posted his regination letter on his Twitter account.

Ashok Tanwar and his supporters had protested against the party in the national capital to protest over the manner of ticket distribution. He was also dissatisfied with the party’s decision to appoint Kumari Selja as the president of HPCC in place of him.  Furthermore, the elevation of Bhupinder Singh Hooda as the chairman of the election management committee left him angry.

The two leaders, Ashok Tanwar and Bhupinder Singh Hooda was known to be engage in a continuous battle over the position of President and ideological differences.

Haryana state will go the polls for its 90 assembly seats on October 21. Counting of votes will take place on October 24.

TIW’s Take-

It can be seen that Congress party will face imminent troubles in the upcoming Haryana polls as its former heavy-weight member has launched a scathing attack on the party.

Furthermore, the addition of celebrity stars in the fleet of the ruling BJP government can be seen as an advantage to the saffron party. Jumping of other political parties such as SAD, BSP, JJP, INLD has further increased the cut-throat competition.

In such a case, the Congress party’s votes can be assumed to be divided.
