Gauri Lankesh, a senior journalist, activist and critic of Hindutva politics, has been shot dead outside her house in Rajrajeshwari Nagar in Bengaluru on Tuesday night. She was 55 years old.
According to eye witnesses, Lankesh was standing outside her house when she was approached by 3 men on a bike. Before she could confront the riders, she was shot repeatedly. The incident took place at 8:35 pm on Tuesday. She had sustained injuries on neck and chest. According to the eyewitnesses, she died on spot.
The incident was confirmed by Bengaluru commissioner of police T Suneel Kumar. In his statement, he confirmed the murder and added that the police was rushing on the spot to further investigate the matter.
