Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday directed Police Chiefs to ensure that only fit policemen should be kept as an in charge in Police Stations. The increase in the crimes and growing complaints has put the Yogi led BJP Government under the scanner.

At a review meeting through video conferencing late on Sunday, UP CM Yogi Adityanath also issued an order to transfer Additional Director General (ADG) Traffic M.K.Bashal, said an official who was familiar with the development said on Sunday.

Yogi on a video call warned the officials that any negligence would invite punishment. He said ‘Sudhar jayiye, warna hum sudhaar denge (Behave, or I will teach you how to behave). He also directed the district police chiefs of Ghaziabad, Noida, Sitapur, Jaunpur, Rampur, Ambedkar Nagar, Bareilly, Bulandshahr and Allahabad to ensure that soaring crime graphs were contained and cases solved quickly.

There has been a steady stream of complaints about traffic complications, too, He ordered traffic circle officer (CO) of Gorakhpur Santosh Singh be handed out compulsory retirement. Singh was accused of extorting money from vehicle drivers. The Chief Minister said police must ensure criminals fear the law of the land.

He also checked with more than a dozen district police chiefs whether foot-patrolling was being conducted or not.
