The European Union (EU) is preparing to introduce the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on May of 25. These regulations intend to harmonize data privacy laws. Following this Google has now updated the company’s Privacy Policy to comply with the new regulations. This policy will be across all of the services the tech giant is currently providing in the region. In a Blog Post on Friday, the company laid out the new Privacy Policy. It details about how and why Google collects that data of a user that powers its various products.
The Blog Post by William Malcolm, Director, Privacy Legal EMEA at Google. “We have been working on our compliance efforts for over 18 months and ahead of the new law coming into effect we are updating our current Privacy Policy to make it easier to understand what information we collect and why we collect it”. Nearly after four years of debate and discussions, the GDPR was finally approved by the EU Parliament on April 14, 2016. It also implies that the organizations that will not comply with the new regulation may face hefty fines.
New Privacy Policy:
Following the new policies, users will now continue to have granular control over the data they share. This data mainly is shared with the company when the users use its services. Also, the My Account settings that allow users to review Google Security, privacy and ad settings, is also now improved. With Activity Controls, now users can choose which activity they want to save to their Google Account. Users can also view or delete data, including search history, location history, browsing history from the company’s services.
Now users can also take a Security Checkup or Privacy Checkup to reassure that their account is secure. The users can now get a clear overview of all the Google products that they use by using Google Dashboard.
