Rain havoc

If the latest media reports are to be believed, the central government is planning to spend ₹2000 crores in improving the weather forecasting. According to the media reports floating, the ministry of earth sciences is all set to send a proposal to the senior cabinet. The proposal will have plans to spend the proposed amount over a period of 5 years. The major activities taken as a part of this initiatives include installing equipment including radars, supercomputers and special observatories. The latest developments are being considered in order to be able to predict the rains over a small portion of land.

The rains in Mumbai recently had caused huge destruction and killed over 10 people. Similar is the case going on with the latest rains in Bangalore, where over 10 people have lost their lives due to rain-related accidents in last few days. If the new system of weather forecasting is implemented, the weather department will be able to better forecast such sudden changes in the weather and the governments will be able to implement better measures to tackle such situations.

M Rajeevan, Secretary to the earth sciences ministry revealed the plans in an interview recently. He also added that the recent accidents in urban cities have given a major concern to the government and the same needs to be addressed immediately.
