After Supreme Court slammed the Uttar Pradesh government for negligence of the World Heritage Site Taj Mahal, the state government finally presented the first vision draft for the monument.

UP government filed the vision draft report on restoration and preservation of the Taj Mahal in the apex court on Tuesday. The document mentioned that the entire premises should be declared a ‘no-plastic’ zone.

A bench constituting of Justices M B Lokur and Deepak Gupta headed the hearing. On July 11, SC had criticized the state government for its lack of measures for restoring and protecting the Mughal era monument. The court asked them “either to restore the pristine beauty of the monument or demolish it”.

Apart from declaring the whole precinct no-plastic zone, Aishwarya Bhati representing the UP government said they were planning to ban plastic water bottles inside the premises as well.

In order to promote pedestrian movement in the World Heritage Site, the state government said an effective and comprehensive traffic management plan needs to be implemented. It also mentioned that the traffic near Yamuna riverfront should be managed to encourage the pedestrians.

The government said that tourism hubs should be introduced; while the polluting industries near the region should be banned.

The document said that any construction should be prohibited near the ‘Yamuna floodplain and the riverbank should only have natural plantations’, PTI reported.

After the lashing out of the apex court, the UP Government has finally introduced some strict measures to restore the 17th century built Taj Mahal.
