The central government has issued an advisory asking the citizens not to travel to Yemen citing security concerns. The development comes after government making all its efforts to rescue Father Tom Uzhunnalil, who was abducted by militants in Yemen last year.

Despite government’s warning of severe security concerns in Yemen, Father Tom had travelled to the country in 2015. On March 04, 2016, he was abducted by a militant group, which is still to be identified. He was finally rescued after over a year and recently returned to the country.

In its advisory, the government has mentioned that all the travel documents related to Yemen have been disqualified and the citizens will not be able to travel to the country until the next orders are announced. The order also states that if any citizen violates the order, his/her passport can be revoked for a period ranging from 7 years to lifetime.

Government officials, however, will not face the heat of this travel suspension, provided, they are travelling for official purposes. According to the statement, the situation in Yemen continues to be fragile for the international travellers and anyone getting into the country will do so on his personal risk.
