The Union Finance Ministry in a notification on Thursday announced to roll out ₹20 coin almost 10 years after the release of ₹10 coin. The new coin will have a shape like 12-edged polygon (dodecagon), the weight of almost 8.54 grams. The new coin will have an outside diameter of 27mm as per the release by the Union Finance Ministry.

Stating more about the new Coin, the release said that the ₹20 coin’s face will be featured Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar and with a text of Satyame Jayate on it. While the back of the coin will have a denomination of ₹20 with rupee symbol above it. More by Financegradeup. The Top Right and the bottom periphery will have a Rs 20 in Hindi and ‘Twenty Rupee’ in English.

Earlier Reserve Bank on India in March 2009 released ₹10 coin.

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday also unveiled the new series of visually impaired friendly circulation coins, in New Delhi.

₹1, ₹2, ₹5, ₹10 and ₹20 are the various denominations of coins released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of the new series.

The coins were released at a function at Prime Minister Official Residence where visually impaired children were specially invited. The Prime Minister expressed happiness in hosting them and thanked them for giving him an opportunity to interact with them.

The Prime Minister speaking on the Occasion also thanked the National Institute of Design for the design, Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited and the Ministry of Finance for the introduction of new coins.

Various new features have been incorporated in the new series of circulation coins to make it more easy for the visually impaired to use them.

Union Minister for Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Minister of State for Finance Shri Pon Radhakrishnan were also present at the event at PMO.
