At a time of disaster, one of the worst floods that hit Kerala, many Gulf countries have extended support to assist in the rescue and relief operations.

According to a Livemint report, on Saturday, Sharjah ruler Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi donated Rs 4 crore to help the flood-hit state.

As per Indiatimes, Sultan of Oman Qaboos bin Said Al Said has directed the Royal Oman Air Force to fly a special flight from Muscat to Thiruvananthapuram carrying essential materials like drinking water and food.

Dr Azad Moopen, Chairman and Founder of Aster DM Healthcare, a Dubai based centre has mustered a team of 200 medical and non-medical volunteers, to extend humanitarian aid, reported Indiatimes.

UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has asked for the formation of a national emergency committee to provide aid to the flood-hit Kerala, ANI reported.

Sheikh Khalifa tweeted, “The people of Kerala have always been and are still part of our success story in the UAE. We have a special responsibility to help and support those affected, especially during this holy and blessed days.” He urged “everyone to contribute generously towards this initiative.”

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president of the UAE assured that his country stands with the people of Kerala. He tweeted, “The state of Kerala in India is currently witnessing huge floods, the most devastating in a century. Hundreds have been killed, hundreds of thousands have been displaced. Ahead of Eid Al Adha, do not forget to extend a helping hand to our brothers in India.”

The national emergency committee will be chaired by the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), representatives from the UAE’s humanitarian organisations will also be a part of the committee, reported the Gulf News.

So far, 324 people have lost their lives in the devastating floods.
