Speaking to the media, former Chief Minister of Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda said his party’s competition is only with the ruling party of the state, Bhartiya Janta Party.

The leader refuted the credibility of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and said that these parties are not the competitors. As quoted by ANI, he said, “JJP and INLD are not factors in the Haryana assembly election. The contest is only between the Congress and the BJP.

Furthermore, Bhupinder Singh Hooda showed an optimistic attitude regarding the Congress party’s performance in the ongoing Haryana elections.

Polling in Haryana began at 7 am today. The voting will be going on till 6 pm in the evening. A total of 1169 candidates are contesting for 90 assembly seats in the state. To ensure the smooth operational conduct of elections in a peaceful manner, heavy security has been deployed in the state near the polling booths. Around 40,000 state police personnel and 13,000 paramilitary personnel with more than 20,000 Home Guards and Special Police Officers have been deployed.

  • Total no. of candidates– 1168 individuals
  • Total no. of Voters– 1.83 crores (including 1.07 Lakh service voters)
  • Total no. of New voters– 3.64 lakh (those between the age of 18-19)
  • Total no. of Polling stations– 19,442 booths
  • Total no. of Polling stations in Urban areas– 13,931 booths
  • Total no. of Polling stations in Rural areas– 5,511 booths
  • Total no. of seats reserved for Scheduled castes– 17 seats
  • Total voter turnout in 2014 assembly polls– 76.5 percent

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also urged the people to increase the voter turnout in today’s elections of Haryana and Maharastra.
