Honeypreet, who calls herself the Papa’s Angel was arrested from Zirakpur-Patiala road in Punjab on Tuesday morning, after playing hide and seek for almost 40 days.
According to the sources, the adopted daughter of rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim was taken into the custody of the Haryana Police yesterday and was questioned till 3 in the night. She is accused of instigating the riots that took place in Punjab and Haryana after the courts announced its verdict against the Dera Chief and also plotting the escape of her father.
The Dera Chief was found guilty of raping two sadhvis of his ashram and is sentenced to an imprisonment of 20 years. As soon as the court announced its verdict, lakhs of Dera Sacha Sauda Chief supporters came out on the roads and widespread violence was witnessed. Honeypreet is accused of being involved in planning and firing these violent protest.
The sources said that after the questioning she was taken to the hospital as she complained of chest pain, however, the doctors reportedly declared that she was fine.
A police officer said that “She was asked many questions on the Panchkula Riots, where she was after that day and the people she was in touch with.”
Meanwhile, Honeypreet, whose real name is Priyanka Taneja, denying all the allegations said that she had nothing to do with the riots that broke out neither she was involved in and plans for the escape of Gurmeet. She said that she was completely devastated and in depression after her father, Gurmeet went to jail. “When Papa went away (was jailed), my world came crashing down,” she said.
She also completely ruled out any possibility of having any suspicious relations with her father, as alleged by ex-husband Vishwas Gupta. she said: “I cannot understand how anyone can point fingers at pious relations that are there between a father and his daughter. What proof do they have?”
According to the sources, Panchkula Police will be producing Honeypreet in the local court on Wednesday afternoon. Police commissioner AS Chawla said that the police will request for a maximum repand period for her as her interrogation is an important in the violence in which at least 41 people were killed
