The two Indian Mujahideen operatives, Aneeq Shafique and Mohammed Akbar Ismail Chowdhari who had been behind the twin blasts of 2007 in Hyderabad. The local court has convicted the two of them along with two others in this case but the quantum for the sentence is due for next week and the victims have pleaded for capital punishment for the accused.

“As per the Indian law, the highest punishment is hanging. I want those convicted to be hanged. And also the government should seize all the properties of those convicted and distribute it to the victims,” said Chander Nayak who was one of the victims of the blast and had lost an eye in the explosion.

Two blasts had occurred at Gokul Chat eatery in Koti and the laser show auditorium at Lumbini Park around 7.45 pm on August 25, 2007. 32 people were killed at Gokul Chat, 10 lost their lives at Lumbini Park and more than 50 were injured. An unexploded bomb was also recovered from Dilsukhnagar that very same night.

“I lost my right eye. I have no job now. Government should help us. Government should approach the high court seeking punishment for those acquitted in the lower court” added Nayar on his present situation.

Earlier, the judgment was to be delivered on August 27, however, Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge T Srinivas Rao postponed it to September 4. According to the prosecution, Aneeq Shafique Sayeed allegedly planted the bomb at Lumbini Park while Riyaz Bhatkal planted the bomb at Gokul Chat. Tarik Anjum, on the other hand, is accused of giving shelter to the other accused after the blasts.

Another victim B. Anjaiah spoke that he had lost his daughter and two of his very close relatives in the blast. He also agrees with the views of Nayar claiming that the capital punishment will be the right punishment for the ones who were behind this blast.
