Nagaland has witnessed three Chief Ministers since 2014 and because of this frequent change of the ministers both the people and the government machinery is suffering.

Recently, Shürhozelie Liezietsu replaced TR Zeliang and became the Chief Minister in Feb 2017. Since he assumed office he assumed office he has expelled many of his ministers and MLA’s including the Chairman of Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) TR Zeliang.

Crisis erupted in the state after former Chief Minister TR Zeliang wrote a letter to the governor pleading to form a government with the support of 41 out of 59 MLAs. After the recent situation, there are rumors that even the current government will not be able to complete the full term. However, Liezietsu denied any such possibilities, saying that the government will complete its full term. The next assembly elections in the state are due next year.

In an interview to ET Shürhozelie Liezietsu, said that it is outrageous that the same MLAs that installed him as the CM a few months back are now trying to pull him down. He also confirmed that he will not step down as the CM and will continue for the full term. He also denied any possibility of Naga People’s Front party splitting saying that the rebelling MLAs are coming back Kaziranga in Assam and that he has managed to keep the party together earlier also when there were attempts to divide the party and will also handle the situation this time.

During the interview, when asked about the instability in Nagaland government, Liezietsu said that there is a political motive behind all this of a few disgraceful MLAs. He further added that he did not know why 41 MLAs have turned against him. He ensured that his government will complete the term and will give good governance to the people.
