We cannot forget the 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai city which left a great impact globally. The Nation paid a huge cost which is irreversible. It was an easy entry for the terrorists irrespective of the security. We all desire to live a secured life, be it security from burglary, theft, robbery, molestation and other such anti social activities which makes our life miserable.  The apartments, schools, temples, corporate offices, outlets etc; all have taken security as prime concern and have moved a step further. The CCTV cameras have been installed in major places to capture the footage of the regular activities.

Indian Institute of Sciences (IISC) is planning to install Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) units at their campus, to safeguard the students. It was a welcoming move by the students, which encouraged the management to put forward the proposal to the authorities. The Cameras will not only be installed in the campus, but also at the hostels and the mess. This decision was made, when a student was assaulted for questioning the outsiders, who were drinking inside the campus. They broke a glass bottle on the student’s head and stabbed him at the back . How cruel can one be?

The surveillance system will definitely prevent recurring of such incidents and will also be threat to the trespassers who have taken the campus for granted. It will also caution the students and prevent activities like stealing of raw materials by the workers, misusing the college property and so on. The electronically generated cards will be issued for sign in and sign out purpose. The guest card or visitor cards will be generated and issued to the visitors to smoothen the security process.

Let’s hope that the new initiative by IISC will be fruitful and will also ignite other institutes to use the surveillance system at their premises and prioritize security.
