NGT panel told to submit report on unscientific handling of plastic

A bench headed by NGT chairperson,Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel directed Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) to submit a detailed report highlighting necessary actions taken in the matter.

NEW DELHI: The National Green Tribunal has sought for a report from the forest department on a plea against illegal construction by Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in a green belt in Mayapuri.

The bench, also comprising Justice SP Wangdi and K. Ramakrishnan also said, “The tribunal must receive the report within one month of this email. PCCF, Delhi will receive a copy of this order via e-mail.”

The next hearing for the matter is on October 21. The tribunal heard a plea filed by Jitender Dhir, a Delhi resident, alleging that DDA was carrying out illegal construction in the area recorded as a green belt in Mayapuri.

The plea states that despite objection from the Deputy Conservator of Forest on December 3, 2015, the DDA was constructing a building in an area marked as a green belt. “This green belt is a 5-acre forest area and is declared protected under 1980 forests notification. DDA has started a project in the area making concrete structures, clearing the land of foliage and trees,” the plea said.

It also alleged that part of the land has been misused by removing all the ‘sesame trees’ and DDA is constructing a park on the forest land.
