The Indian National Congress on Tuesday proposed the name of West Bengal MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury for the chairmanship of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament.

‘Congress party has proposed the name of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury for the post of Chairman of PAC (Public Accounts Committee)’, reported ANI on Tuesday.

West Bengal MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is also Congress Lok Sabha Leader.

As per the tradition, the post of PAC of the parliament goes to the main opposition party. The Indian National Congress, with 52 MPs, is the second largest party in the Lok Sabha.

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament is a committee responsible for auditing the revenue and expenditure of the Union Government. The Parliament has three financial standing committees including the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Estimates Committee (EC) and  Committee on Public Undertakings (COPU).

Earlier, the Indian National Congress on June 18 picked West Bengal MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as its Leader in the lower House, Lok Sabha. A former President of the West Bengal Congress, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, has the reputation of having a loud voice in the House. He has been tasked with the responsibility to lead the Congress in the Lok Sabha where it has 52 MPs.

If appointed, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury will replace Congress Stalwart Mallikarjun Kharge who was the Leader of the party in the 16th Lok Sabha and was the Chairperson of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament. In the recently held national polls, Mallikarjun Kharge fails to score and lost from Gulbarga Lok Sabha Seat in Karnataka.
