New Delhi: India reports 15,158 fresh cases of coronavirus which pushed the total tally to 1,05,42,841 in the nation. The active cases now stand at 2,11,033. With 16,977 new recoveries, as far as 1,01,79715 patients recovered, and with 175 new deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has risen to 1,52,093, as per Union Health Ministry.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 18,57,65,491 samples were tested for COVID-19, up to 15th January of which 8,03,090 samples were tested yesterday.

As per Union Health and Welfare Ministry, the infection (Active) rate is 2.00 percent, the recovery rate has reached 96.56 percent and the death rate is 1.44 percent.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched one of the world’s biggest coronavirus vaccine programs on Friday. The vaccination program, aimed at vaccinating 3 crore health frontline workers first, a vaccine manufactured in India one developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca, the other by Bharat Biotech with the country’s top clinical research body.

Health workers, people over 50, and those deemed at high-risk are prioritized to receive one of the two approved vaccines. On day one around 3,00,000 people will receive the first of two doses.

Prime Minister took to Twitter and wrote, “India begins the world’s #LargestVaccineDrive. This is a day of pride, a celebration of the prowess of our scientists and the hard work of our medical fraternity, nursing staff, police personnel, and sanitation workers. May everyone be healthy and free from illness.”
