New Delhi: India reports 18,139 fresh cases of coronavirus which pushed the total tally to 1,04,13,417 in the nation. The active cases now stand at 2,25,449. With 20,539 new recoveries, as far as 1,00,37,398 patients recovered, and with 234 new deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has risen to 1,50,570.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 9,35,369 samples were tested yesterday, and as far as 17,93,36,364 samples have been tested till January 7.

As per Union Health and Welfare Ministry, the infection (Active) rate is 2.16 percent, the recovery rate has reached 96.36 percent and the death rate is 1.45 percent.

The second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination dry run is undergoing across 33 states and Union Territories (UTs) on Friday. A dry run was carried out in eight districts on December 28-29 and the first countrywide drill covering 74 districts was held on January 2.

Meanwhile, amid the scare of a new strain of the coronavirus that emerged in Britain, an Air India flight from the United Kingdom(UK) landed in Delhi with 246 passengers.

Flights from the UK were to resume on Friday after the Indian government temporarily suspended services between India and the UK on December 23 over the new strain of the virus.
