Ahmedabad Mumbai bullet train

Sanjeev Sinha, former Tata executive working in Tokyo, has been appointed as the advisor for India’s long-awaited project of Bullet Train, which will connect Ahmedabad and Mumbai by a high-speed train. The project will cost in excess of ₹1 lakh crore and is being developed by Japan Railways.

Prime Ministers of India and Japan, Narendra Modi and Shinzo Abe, will flag off the project on September 14th in Ahmedabad. The project is expected to get ready by May 2023.

Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project, first such in India, is being developed by a consortium of 6 Japanese companies, who have come together to form Japan Railways Group. The funding for this project comes as the part of a low-interest loan extended to India by Japan. The loan comes at an interest rate of 0.1% per annum for a period of 50 years.

On a phone call from Tokyo, Sinha stated that he will work as an interlink between both the governments. Terming the project as prestigious and extremely complex, he said that the main goal will be to execute the political will into ground tasks.

The project will start from Ahmedabad and will cover 508 kilometres via Sabarmati, Surat and Vadodara to reach Mumbai. Over two-third of the project will be in Gujarat and rest in Maharashtra.
