The Karnataka government in their initiative to introduce new farming techniques to the state’s farmers has called the help from Israeli researchers to come forward and help the farmers by teaching them new and better techniques of farming. According to sources, HD Kumaraswamy is to call 10 specialists from Israel to each of the 30 districts to reach out to the local farmers and assist them.

“Our government has announced farm loan waiver. But this alone is not a long-term solution to revive farm economy. We need to take up schemes in the next few years at a cost of ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 crore to create a proper marketing system that can ensure remunerative prices for agricultural produce, promote exports, set up adequate storage facilities, reduce input costs, increase profits, and also reduce water consumption through efficient means for economically empowering farmers,” said the Karnataka CM.

Earlier in the month of June, the Mizoram government had also joined hands with Israeli horticulture experts who were to teach the local farmers on orange cultivation. The Mizoram farmer’s consortium had recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Israel Corporation of Agriculture Application in this regard. With Karnataka on the other hand, the goal is to achieve appropriate efficiency in water conservation through an advanced form of Israeli technology.

“I recently held a meeting with the departments of agriculture and horticulture and gave a green signal for filling up some of the vacant posts so that they would be in a better position to take forward the proposed technologies,” he added expressing his optimism towards the recent initiative. He also spoke that the ministers for horticulture and agriculture are touring Israel to come up with newer ideas for the technology used. India had already had many talks with Israel but it is for the first time that the two nations are collaborating over an issue like agriculture which affects the grassroot, especially in a developing nation like India.
