Due to the warmth ties between India and Italy, Italy has agreed India to lead the G20 summit in 2022 in its place, as both the two countries has overcome the dispute over marines, where two Italian marines were returned back from India though it was accused of killing two fishermen on India.

Earlier, G20 summit was scheduled by India to host in 2021 and 2022 G20 summit by Italy. However, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged to Italy to let India host G20 summit in 2022 on the 75th anniversary of India independence and has requested Italy to hold G20 summit in 2021.

2019 G20 summit is scheduled in Japan and further Saudi Arabia will hots 2020 G20 summit.

In a tweet, Modi wrote: “In 2022 India completes 75 years since Independence. In that special year, India looks forward to welcoming the world to the G-20 Summit! Come to India, the world’s fastest growing large economy! Know India’s rich history and diversity, and experience the warm Indian hospitality.”

Last year, Modi had a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Guisepee Conte and again this year India has hosted a meet with Italian PM. Modi was scheduled on a two-day visit to Japan from October 29-30, but had returned early on October 30, to meet his Italian counterpart in New Delhi.

Conte has showed his concern and understanding over India. As India is focused to expand its strategic partnerships with Europeans, Italy came as emerging a key technology and economic partner to India.

Including infrastructure, India see Italy to share its technology and also invest in India. Conte met Modi was a technology summit between the two countries in India. Through the centre of excellence, there will be the enhancement of partnership between Italian and Indian institutions.
