Income Tax Department on Thursday rolled out ‘E-filling lite’ facility to make filing of returns by taxpayers quicker and easier. It is now available and fully functional on the official portal of the department. This new ‘ E-filing Lite’ rolls out following Central Board of Direct Taxes’ announcement of extension for filing income tax returns. Taxpayers now have until August 31 to clear out their due taxes and file return.

Since ‘E-filling Lite’ is a lighter version, it won’t convey the same links from accessible to the citizen on getting to Portal Login on I-T E-documenting site.

E-filing lite portal

“Income tax department is launching ‘e-Filing Lite’, a lighter version of e-Filing portal with a focus on filing of Income Tax Return (ITR) by the taxpayers,” the department said in a public advisory. “The same can be accessed by clicking ‘e-Filing Lite’ button in home page. The current e-Filing portal having all the services can be accessed by clicking on ‘Portal Login’ button.”

A senior official further guiding through the new portal said,

  • A new tab for ‘lite’ has been provided on the web portal.
  • After registration as the taxpayer logs in their page, they will only be provided essential links that enable e-filing of ITRs and Form 26AS (for tax deducted at source credit).
  • Taxpayers will then be able to download pre-filled or XML forms and view their past filed returns, among others.
