meeting with all the officials

Jammu and Kashmir CM, Mehbooba Mufti, held a meeting at her official residence with National Conference president Farooq Abdullah to discuss the fallout of repealing Article 35A.  This article empowers the J&K legislature to define “permanent residents“ of the state and pro vide special rights and privileges to them. Under the Article, state laws have barred non-residents from purchasing land in the state.

The government spokesman and minister of Public Works, Naeem Akhtar said,“Article 370 and Article 35A is the foundation of our relation with rest of the country. Strengthening them is in the interest of the state and the country.“ He added that any attempt to abrogate the Article should be prevented.
Kashmiri separatists have called for complete shutdown on August 12 against the probable court order scrapping the Article. Former CM Farooq Abdullah had also called the meeting of all the opposition parties at his residence on 14th August to discuss the issue.

The meeting was attended by CPI (M) state secretary M Y Tarigami, PDF Chairman Hakeem Yaseen and DPN president Ghulam Hassan Mir, who unanimously advocated the formation of a group of intellectuals and civil society members from the Valley and Ladakh.
