Jai Adivasi Yuva Shakti (JAYS), a caste-based outfit, which is prominent in tribal-dominated areas of Madhya Pradesh is in talks with the Congress to contest the upcoming assembly elections in the state. JAYS is planning to contest the election on 80 seats and is keen on having seat arrangement with Congress. JAYS is aiming for an arrangement of 40 seats.

JAYS wants seats in areas like Jhabua, Alirajpur, and Kukshi. National Convenor of JAYS Dr Hiralal Alawa said, “Yes, we are in talks with Congress for the coalition. We have demanded tickets on 40 seats from the party and are hopeful for a successful coalition with them,”

He said that the now it is the decision of Congress “If everything goes well, we will support Congress on other seats and will definitely dethrone the ruling BJP. “If the talks fail, then we will contest against both major parties on 80 seats,” Alawa added.

Dr Anand Rai who had exposed Vyapam scam has been playing a major role in bringing the two parties together. He has been working as bridge between both the parties and has set a link between Rahul Gandhi and Hiralal Alawa through senior Congress leader Vivek Tankha.

Reports are there that the JAYS leader had a talk with Rahul Gandhi a couple of days ago. However, state media-in charge of Congress Shobha Oza said she was unaware of any talks of a coalition with JAYS as the decision will be taken by senior leaders. “PCC head and senior party leaders in New Delhi will take a decision over the pre-poll coalition and distribution with any party,” Oza said.

Earlier, Mr. Hiralal had said that it was open to form an alliance with like-minded parties except for BJP. It had approached Congress but it had not given any response then.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders have not yet finalized their first list of candidates in the state. The party had earlier announced that they would declare the first list of candidates during Navratri but now, the leaders are claiming that the list will not be released before Dussehra. “We will declare our first list after Dussehra as discussion over the names is still on among senior leaders and screening committee members,” state media in charge Shobha Oza said.
