JD(U) soon is likely to face a split in the party as former party leader Sharad Yadav is now openly expressing his disappointment over Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar‘s decision.

Since Nitish decided to break the grand alliance with RJDCongress and form the new government in the state in alliance with BJP, Bihar politics is going through a lot many changes. Two camps seems to have been formed within the party, one supporting Nitish and the other backing Sharad.

An opposition party meet was organised by Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday to unite all opposition parties as one and stand unitedly against BJP in the General Elections due in 2019. 16 parties had attended the meeting, all extending their support against BJP. After Nitish forming the new government in alliance with BJP, JD(U) was excluded from the meeting, however, an invitation was sent to Sharad Yadav.

Sharad could not attend the meeting as he was busy in the three-day public interaction tour across Bihar to know people’s reactions on the new government. Therefore Ali Anwar had attended the meeting on behalf of Sharad.

JD(U) Rajya Sabha member Ali Anwar Ansari, who was critical of the party’s alliance with the BJP, was suspended from its parliamentary party for attending a meeting of opposition parties Friday night. Party spokesperson K C Tyagi also accused Sonia Gandhi of creating a rift within the party and interfering in JD(U)’s personal matter.

Speaking about Sharad’s actions, Tyagi said that if he is unhappy with Nitish’s decision and wishes to leave the party he must express his differences over the development at the party’s national executive meeting which will be held in Patna on August 19.

Ansari had criticised Kumar’s decision to walk out of the JD(U)-RJD-Congress Grand Alliance in Bihar and form the government with the BJP. He is a two-term Rajya Sabha member and his tenure ends in April next. Ansari has said he is opposed to the BJP’s social and economic policies and is ready to face any punishment if the party so decides.
