In a move to curb its anti-national activities, The Jharkhand Government on Tuesday reimposed a ban on Popular Front of India (PFI), months after the State High Court set aside ban on the PFI. According to a state government notification, the Government has imposed a ban for keeping links with terror outfits like ISIS.

According to the government notification, the Popular Front of India (PFI) is banned with immediate effect under the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 1908. The Government Order also stated that the outfit had been conducting radical activities in the state. Government sources have mentioned that this time around, they have followed all the necessary procedures before banning the organization.

The notification says that becoming a member of PFI, giving a donation or keeping literature of its extremist policy or publishing them is illegal.

The decision to ban PFI has been taken after a review that its activities have increased and are dangerous to the state and the nation and it has the power to disrupt peace, communal harmony and secular structure, an official said.

There are several cases against the PFI in the state at different places for indulging in violent activities and anti-national slogans. The PFI has been involved in spreading social division, anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans, links with ISIS and JMB.

Speaking on the development, Bhartiya Janata Party Leader Vijay Singh welcomed the move. He said as quoted by The Republic, ‘PFI has been banned again. 3-4 months ago (in August) PFI went to court. The High Court (Jharkhand) said that the procedure was not duly followed. So this time around, the Jharkhand government has followed due procedures and banned them again. In Jharkhand, there were four districts where their activities were in large. PFI has a connection with the PM assassination plot,” he said.

Earlier, the Jharkhand government had on February 12, 2018 banned the PFI. However, the Jharkhand High Court on August 28 set aside the government notification saying it had not been published in the Gazette after PFI member Abdul Badud challenged the order banning the organization.

Earlier, the Central Government extended Ban on Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) for Five more Years; saying that It has the potential to create communal disharmony.
