A few days after the actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan declared that his party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) is looking for an alliance with “like-minded” parties, the Congress has invited him to join its alliance with DMK in Tamil Nadu.

Congress claimed that the parties have similar ideologies so they should contest the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2019 as an alliance. Sanjay Dutt, Congress secretary in-charge of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, invited Haasan to contact the party leadership and finalize a tie-up.

Dutt told the media that both Rahul Gandhi and Stalin are bringing the secular democratic forces together. He added that Kaman Haasan also seems to take a stand against fascism and communalism. He underlined the “like-mindedness” of Congress and MNM by saying that both the parties have zero tolerance against corruption, and are focused on overall development.

Haasan, however, expressed his willingness to form an alliance with Congress provided it snaps its ties with DMK. Congress, on the other hand, has stuck to its long-standing alliance with DMK.

Addressing the media after the party meeting, Haasan said that he is ready for an alliance with only the parties that do not damage the DNA of Tamil Nadu.

He also ruled out the alliance with BJP and said that the option to align with Congress remains open.
