Actor turned Politician Kamal Haasan on Wednesday launched his Political Party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) in Puducherry. Haasan also briefed the Media after the launch event. Actor turned Politician, Hasaan, 64, while speaking on the event said: ‘Ahimsa is the pinnacle of bravery, and Makkal Needhi Maiam has not been run with the help of goons or anti-social and is working with non-violence as its principle. Not just goons, even the usual politicians won’t find a place in MNM’.
While asserting that MNM will revolution Kamal Haasan said, ‘In a limited time, Makkal Needhi Maiam will create a revolution, and we are collecting funds from people only on a clean, transparent manner, as it is not wrong for a father to get money from his son. Don’t lookout for Gandhiji in the parliament, we can find Gandhiji only outside parliament. A Kakkan or a Kamaraj cannot be identified in North India” added Kamal Haasan.
Kamal Haasan who had earlier decided to contest Lok Sabha Polls on 39 seats of Tamil Nadu will now contest on 40 seats including a seat on Puducherry. Tamil Nadu has 39 seats in Lok Sabha while Puducherry has a single seat.
MNM was launched last year on February 21 by Kamal Haasan from his hometown Rameshwaram. As part of the launch of his political faction, Haasan toured Tamil Nadu extensively to interact with locals in different villages of Tamil Nadu.
After almost a year of Makkal Needhi Maiam party’s ‘Journey with the people’, Makkal Needhi Maiam is happy to announce its launch in the Puducherry Union Territory. Following the launch, Makkal Needhi Maiam party president Kamal Haasan will address the media,” read a circular issued by the MNM on Tuesday.
On December 21, He said that his party will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2019. Kamal Haasan also asserted that his party is open to an alliance with like-minded parties. Hasan said ‘It has been decided that Party will contest on all 40 Lok Sabha Seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in an alliance will like-minded parties. We will align with Parties having the same ideology and having a focus on Development of Tamil Nadu‘, Haasan said reportedly. On which, Congress, reportedly, invited him to join forces in Tamil Naidu. Congress claimed that the parties have similar ideologies so they should contest the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2019 as an alliance.
