Kanu Gandhi, Grand Son of Mahatma Gandhi, famous as the kid who led Bapu in the historic Dandi March, passed away today at a hospital in Surat. He was 87 year old. Kanu Gandhi is survived by his wife, Shivalaxmi.

Kanu Gandhi served NASA as a scientist before moving back to India. His health had been deteriorating since last few months, on may 15th this year, Indian PM Narendra Modi had spoken to him to inquire about his health. Recently, on October 22nd, Kanu Gandhi had a heart attack and brain haemorrhage, post which, his body was paralyzed. As an effect, he went to coma and never recovered. He was in the hospital since then.

A picture of Kanu Gandhi, in which he was seen as holding an end of Bapu’s stick and guiding him on the beaches of Dandi at the time of Dandi march has been circulated through the years.
