A news which will bring solace for Kerala has come after days of suffering from the rains and floods, amidst the ongoing relief and rescue operations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has withdrawn red alert from all districts of Kerala, reported NDTV. 10 districts are on orange alert, while the yellow alert is issued for two districts.

ANI wrote, “Red alert has been withdrawn from all districts of Kerala today. Orange alert issued for 10 districts, yellow alert (weather conditions that do not pose an immediate threat to the general population, but only to those exposed to risk by nature of their location and/or activity) for 2 districts.”

IMD has predicted moderate rains in the remote areas of Kerala over the next 24 hours. The incessant deluge in Kerala slowed down the rescue operations, but with the release of the new report, a wave of relief has spread.

As per NDTV report, so far 357 people have lost their lives in flood-hit Kerala and several lakhs have been moved to relief camps. Just in the last 24 hours, 33 people were killed by the floods, reported India Today.

The met office has assured that the state would not experience heavy rainfall from Monday. The water level has started receding in some parts, reported India Today.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has asked for Rs 2000 crore as the immediate relief fund for the state.

Due to inundation inside the premises, Kochi airport has been shut down till Aug 26. From Aug 20, commercial flights will be allowed to resume work from the Indian Navy’s runway in Kochi.

Indian Railways dispatched 15 lakh litre drinking water and one lakh water bottles to flood-hit Kerala on Saturday, India Today said.

Kerala is not alone in this hour of crisis. The Indian Commercial Pilots’ Association (ICPA) wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, saying, “We are willing to fly the planes without payment on voluntary basis to the cause of these operations. We consider this a unique privilege that we can use to assist in such operations.”

Prime Minister Modi announced an immediate relief of Rs 500 crore in a meeting with the Kerala CM on Saturday.
