Thiruvananthapuram, June 24 (IANS) Kerala Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, here on Monday, asked state CPI-M Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan to quit the party post after his son was accused in a rape case.

Slamming the CPI-M in the Assembly, the Congress leader said, “If Balakrishnan has any scruple left, he should quit as the CPI-M state secretary. Your party often speaks of upholding high moral ground and finds faults with others.”

A team of Mumbai Police reached Kerala on Sunday to arrest Balakrishnan’s son Binoy Kodiyeri, who has been absconding after a rape case was filed against him in Mumbai last week.

In the FIR filed at the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai’s Andheri area, a 33-year-old woman alleged that Binoy had been sexually exploiting her for several years on the pretext of marriage.

Meanwhile, a Mumbai court that was to hear Binoy’s anticipatory bail plea on Monday postponed it to Thursday.

M.A. Baby, CPI-M politburo member and a colleague of Balakrishnan, said here on Monday that the party would not intervene in the matter.

“There is no reason for the party to intervene in this issue. Binoy is not a party member. If the children or any relative of a party member runs into trouble, it’s the duty of that person to find out the solution,” said Baby.
