Just as Tamil Nadu struggles with the havoc wreaked by Cyclone Gaja, Kerala which is itself trying to restore after the the worst floods that the state witnessed in a century, turned to help. Tamil Nadu was one of the first states to extend an overwhelming support during Kerala’s difficult time. Apart from the Tamil Nadu government, many people, including cultural figures and film stars wholeheartedly contributed to the Distress Relief Fund.

Thousands of electric posts and transformers were damaged due to Cyclone Gaja. Around 400 employees of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) are working to restore the electricity supply in various parts of Tamil Nadu, primarily in the Thanjavur and Pudukottai districts. They are engaged in installing poles and in the reconstruction of electric lines in the affected areas.

An official from KSEB,“We are providing manpower assistance to the power department staff in Tamil Nadu to restore the power supply as it is the worst condition now. The efforts need to be continued for a few more days as the task is big.”
