The Aam Aadmi Party government, which defeated the Congress in Punjab, has lathi-charged the farmers. During this, 6 farmers have been injured, who have been admitted to the hospital. These farmers were demanding compensation for the damaged cotton crop.
Under the leadership of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan), the farmers took the Naib Tehsildar of Lambi and other staff hostage in the office. After this the police lathi-charged the farmers at 12 o’clock on Monday and rescued the Naib Tehsildar and the staff. Six farmers were injured in the lathi charge by the police, who have been admitted to Lambi’s hospital. At the same time, after the coming out of Naib Tehsildar Arjinder Singh and the staff, now the Tehsildars of the entire state have gone on strike.
Farmers allege that Muktsar district has been neglected in the matter of compensation for the crop of Narma, which was damaged by pink bollworm. In Muktsar district, most of the narma cultivation is done in long blocks only. Only six villages of Lambi block were included in Girdavari and they too have not been compensated yet, another 30 villages have not been included in Girdawari.
On the other hand, 6 farmers were injured in the lathi charge of the police, who were admitted to the nearby government hospital. BKU has now staged a dharna outside the Tehsil office. They have stuck to their point and are demanding compensation.
The patwaris held hostage by the farmers after coming out late at night staged a sit-in on the National Highway. Now the employees of all the SDM and Tehsil offices of the district have gone on strike to demand action against the farmers taken hostage. The Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar of the state also gathered at the guest house in Badal village and announced to go on an indefinite strike.
President, Punjab Youth Congress Brinder tweeted “The foundation of @AAPPunjab to form govt was laid down in the kissan agitation ,from where the narrative of Badlav was set and finally @BhagwantMann bore the fruit and this is the way of repaying back #compensation .In 20 days first lathicharge on farmers in lambi.
