Several left leaders including Sitaram Yechury, Prakash Karat and Nilotpal Basu have been detained in Mandi house in New Delhi on Thursday for protesting against Citizenship act. Former JNU leader Umar Khalid has also been detained for sloganeering.

Group of 60 NGOs, citizen groups and Opposition parties have come together to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act in the national capital. The epicentre of their protest remains New Delhi and Mumbai.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation closed gates of 17 metro stations in view of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. The DMRC closed gates of seven metro stations in the morning – Jamia Millia, Jama Masjid and Munirka, entry & exit gates of Patel Chowk, Lok Kalyan Marg, Udyog Bhawan, ITO, Pragati Maidan and Khan Market are closed. Trains will not be halting at these stations. The gates of Central Secretariat were also closed but interchange facility was available for passengers.

Government asked telecommunication authorities to suspend internet, voice and call services in several areas of Delhi. In a response to one of the users, Bharti Airtel has confirmed that voice, internet and SMS services were disrupted as per directives from the government.

Internet services are likely to remain suspended till afternoon.
