Left party CPM alleged that Doordarshan, the public broadcaster, did not broadcast Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar‘s speech on Independence Day.

CPM leader Brinda Karat accused the central government saying it was the killing of democracy. She raised that question that Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about cooperative federalism from the Red Fort and not broadcasting the speech given by Chief Minister of Tripura, where is the federalism the PM talks about? She added that the news broadcasting channel Aaj Tak has a copy of the speech given by Manik in which he has targeted the communal forces openly.

In his speech, Manik without naming the party attacked RSS saying that the [arty that supported the Britishers and were against the movement for freedom is today attacking the very roots of the nation and is trying to break the country. He had also mentioned the recent events of Mob Lynching incident in his speech.

The public broadcaster channel Doordarshan had recorded Tripura CM’s speech on 12 Aug which was to be broadcast on 15 Aug. But the CM received a mail from the Prasar Bharti on the eve of 14 Aug saying that Manik will have to make some changes in his speech. Aaj Tak got hold of a copy of the email sent to Manik Sarkar. The email read that after holding a discussion with the higher officials of the Prasar Bharti it was decided that a few changes had to be made. It said that the CM should make changes and deliver his speech on 15 Aug keeping in mind the emotions of the people and the Independence Day.

According to close sources of the Manik Sarkar, the Chief Minister had completely refused to make any changes in the speech, following which his speech was not aired on 15 Aug. Responding to this the CPM directly held the Modi-government responsible for it.
