The proceedings of the Lower House of the Parliament were adjourned for almost 50 minutes on Friday morning, the 9th day of winter session, amid ruckus created by AIADMK, TDP and AAP members over a variety of issues.

There were no protests by Congress members who had been continuously attacking the government on the Rafale jet deal and demanding a joint parliamentary committee probe into the issue.

The day has seen many disruptions over several issues – Sealing Issue, dam over Cauvery River and special status for Andhra Pradesh.

Despite repeated adjournments, the Lok Sabha had on Thursday passed two bills. Lok Sabha on Thursday passes Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill; and also gives a nod to Autism Bill.

As soon as the House took up question hour, AIADMK members rushed to the Well holding placards and raising slogans opposing construction of a dam over River Cauvery.

They were joined by members from the Telugu Desam Party who were demanding various sops for Andhra Pradesh including Special Status. Though the Government on Wednesday made it clear that it is not possible to give special status to Andhra Pradesh as it has already allocated special funds.

Some of the Aam Admi Party members also joined AIADMK and TDP. They were holding placards denouncing sealing, apparently in Delhi. ‘Atrocities in the name of sealing’ was one of the placards they were holding.

At this, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned proceedings till noon. But later as the stir continues, The proceedings of the Lok Sabha have been adjourned for the day.

The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018 was also expected to table on the Lok Sabha today.
