With numerous warning given by Election Commission of not using railways and airways tickets with pictures of political influencers with respect to the Model Code of Conduct, Election Commission on Monday suspended two railway employees for disobeying the warnings.

The two railway employees were suspended by the Election commission after they issued the tickets with pictures of Narendra Modi to the passengers at the Barabanki railway station. The election commission said that the issuing of tickets with politician pictures is a violation to the Model Code of Conduct.

Mohammad Shaqbar, a passenger from the Barabanki railway station bought a ticket for his aunt from Barabanki to Varanasi. The ticket had a picture of Narendra Modi. He said that “I knew it violated the Code of conduct and so I lodged a complaint.” The passenger lodged a complaint with the Election Commission, that took an instant decision against the violation.

Regarding the lack of attention from the Railway staff, Election Commission sought a response from the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM). In response to the EC, the SDM, Sandeep Gupta said that the rolls used on April 13 that featured the picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi were old rolls and they were mistakenly used. He said that the rolls were changed after the Model Code came into effect. But because of the same boxes of the rolls, the employees mistakenly took out the box that had the old rolls.

The Election Commission suspended the two officials and asked him to probe the department and pay heed to such instances.

With the end of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, the campaigning for the other phases began on April 12.

The Lok Sabha polls are spread in seven phases that started from April 11 and will continue till May 19. The results for the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on May 23.
