On the eve of the 70th Constitution day, Lokpal institution set up as an anti-corruption ombudsman finally got its logo and motto on Tuesday. The information was conveyed by the Ministry of Personnel. The logo and motto were launched by Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose who is the head of Lokpal.

The selection was done out of a total of 6,000 plus entries that received through an open competition. Breaking down in parts, it was observed that a total of 2,236 entries were received for the logo while 4,705 entries were for motto. Interestingly, none of the mottoes received through the competition mode were selected as they were found to be unsuitable for the institution. Finally, the Lokpal itself created its motto.

The logo was selected through a three-stage selection process. According to the Lokpal officials, the design of Prashant Mishra from Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh was adopted. The logo is said to symbolize how Lokpal aims to protect and cares for the people of the country by establishing justice according to the rule of law.

Explaining his design to the media, Prashant Mishra said that his logo symbolizes various essence of Lokpal figuratively in shapes such as ombudsman (judges bench), people (three human figures), vigilance (Ashoka Chakra forming eye-pupil), law (shape of book in orange color) and judiciary (the tricolor two hands are placed below forming a unique balance).

The motto- “मा गृधः कस्यस्विद्धनम्” was agreed upon in a meeting held on October 17, 2019. The selected motto was taken from one verse of “Ishabasoupanishad” (religious book). The motto is in the Sanskrit language which means- “Do not be greedy for anyone’s wealth”.

Lokpal is the ombudsman institution created by the passage of Jan Lokpal Bill that was pioneered by Anna Hazare. The body will deal with the cases of corruption at the national level. Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose was administered the oath as the chairperson of the anti-corruption ombudsman on March 23 by President Ram Nath Kovind.
