Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday requested the Mamata Banerjee led West Bengal government to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the Kolkata Commissioner of police Rajeev Kumar for sitting on a dharna with West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee & some other police officers, reported ANI.

The Union Ministry letter addressed to chief secretary stated Rajeev Kumar, Kolkata Police Commissioner sat on Dharna an along with some police officers with the Chief Minister West Bengal at the Metro channel in Kolkata, which is prima facie in contravention of the extant provisions of All India Service (Conduct) rules, 1968 and AIS (Discipline & Appeal) rules 1969.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had on Tuesday ended her ‘Save the
Constitution‘ dharna, which she started on Sunday night after the CBI’s attempt to arrest Rajeev Kumar.

TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee had on Tuesday welcomed the Top Court and termed it as Moral Victory. Banerjee ended her Dharna by saying, ‘ This ‘Save the Democracy’ is a victory for the Constitution and democracy. So let us end it today. We started this dharna only after consulting all political parties and after that, they extended their full support.”

Supreme Court had on Tuesday issued a notice to Commissioner Of Police Kolkata, DGP and West Bengal government on contempt plea. We will direct the Police Commissioner to make himself available and fully cooperate. We will deal with contempt petition later,” observed CJI Ranjan Gogoi. The Top Court further set February 20 as the next date of hearing in the case.

The Apex Court further said that ‘The Police Commissioner of Kolkata Rajeev Kumar will appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Shillong, Meghalaya as a neutral place’.

A standoff between Central Investigation Agency, CBI and West Bengal Police erupted on Sunday evening over questioning of West Bengal Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar on Shardha Chit fund scam. The Whole Issue on Monday reached Parliament, Supreme Court, and Kolkata High Court as Mamata Banerjee sit in protest against the Central Government atrocities.
