The BJP-led Narendra Modi government on Sunday called for an all-party meeting to discuss important issues that need to be addressed during the budget session of Parliament that is scheduled to begin this week.

Following this meeting called by Parliamentary Affairs minister Ananth Kumar Hegde, another similar meeting consisting of House leaders of all parties will be held by Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan at 7:30 PM on the same day, which will be followed by dinner.

The first phase of this year’s budget session will begin with President Ramnath Kovind’s first address to a joint seating of the two Houses. This will be followed by the Union Budget on 1st February, after which the Parliament will go on a break on 9th February. Parliamentarians will then meet again for the budget session’s second leg from 5th March to 6th April.

The government is expected to introduce some important bills for consideration and passing this budget session, such as the law criminalizing triple talaq and an amendment which seeks to provide constitutional status to the OBC commission.

This session is also going to give Narendra Modi’s government its last full budget ahead of general elections scheduled for next year. The government is expected to bring in major reforms to bring GDP rates and other economic targets back on track.
