On the 4th day of the Monsoon session, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar accused the opposition of selective amnesia over the lynching issue.

During the Rajya Sabha session today, Prakash Javadekar brought up the matter of 1984 and said that 3,000 Sikhs were lynched then. He said that that time Sikhs were burnt alive and looking at the prevailing situations he added that this is the worst crime against mankind, it requires urgent condemnation and there should not be any such incident repeated again.

Targeting the opposition Javadekar said that in 2012, 16 incidents of mob lynching were reported and 14 incidents were reported in 2013. He indirectly questioned the Congress that, “there is no place for lynching in democracy. Where are the culprits of 2012, 2013… where are the perpetrators of 1984.”

Reacting to the allegations made by Javadekar on the opposition, Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that it is sad that the education minister has such thoughts. He further added that it does not matter which government was ruling that time BJP or Congress, the matter of concern is that members of the ‘parivar’ were found behind it.

Meanwhile, the opposition along with Congress and the Trinamool Congress (TMC), staged a walk out from the Rajya Sabha session.

Following the walk out of the opposition Senior advocate of Supreme court and a member of the Rajya Sabha, K T S Tulsi accused the government of acting like an ostrich over the lynching issue, hiding behind the disguise of other issues. Tulsi questioned the government that till now twenty-eight Indians have died in cases of lynching, and out of them 24 were Muslims if this is not a communal crime then what is it?
