Railway board chairman VK Yadav on Sunday wrote to all zonal general managers and divisional railway managers asking them to remove all kinds of political advertisements from railway premises procuring the threat of influences in the upcoming general elections. these advertisements are in violation of the model code of conduct.

Railways have been asked to investigate into the matter over the use of advertisements in public transport and vendors. The development in the investigation is a result of advertisements on the tickets of the passengers. The railway was asked to submit the response as to why the railway tickets had the picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the MCC has come into force.

In the previous days, Jammu & Kashmir minister Omar Abdullah tweeted a picture of his ticket that had Narendra Modi’s picture on it. This was against the clauses of MCC which calls for serious actions taken in violation of its conduct.

Just two days back tea was being served at railway stations on which the slogan “Mai Bhi Chowkidar” was written.

Dear GMs/DRMs, any advertisement having a photograph of any political leader on railway ticket, any other railway stationery, railway coaches, railway stations, any other railway premises should be immediately removed and advertising agency should be suitably informed,” the message read.

When investigated the use of teacups as a public advertisement strategy, the IRCTC denied its approval in the use of any such label on its cups.

“An explanation has been sought from Supervisor/Pantry Incharges over lack of devotion to duty. One lakh fine has been imposed on the service provider. Show cause notice has also been served to the service provider for this misconduct,” IRCTC had said in a statement on Friday.
