The Kamal Nath led Congress Government in Madhya Pradesh in a major reshuffle transferred 221 police personnel, including 34 Indian Police Service (IPS) and 187 state police service (SPS) officials, across the state. The transfers were announced in two orders issued by the state’s Home department on Friday evening and Saturday morning.

According to the circular released by the Home Department, the 187 SPS officers transferred comprise 35 Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and 152 Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy SP) rank officials.

Ruchi Vardhan Mishra was appointed Indore’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), it said.

The Madhya Pradesh government also appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) for nine districts comprising Indore (East), Dewas, Katni, Hoshangabad, Datia, Narsinghpur, Dindori, Agar Malwa and Harda.

The Major Shuffle in the Police Department came a day after Madhya Pradesh Government announced various welfare schemes.

Earlier right after assuming the Office, Chief Minister Kamal Nath on December 22 transferred as many as 48 IAS officers, including 24 district collectors. The district collectors of Indore, Dhar, Ratlam, and Katni were retained, Rewa collector Preeti Maithil has been transferred to Sagar.

Kamal Nath has retained Ashok Barnwal who served as the principal secretary of Former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He will serve the same role.

During the election campaigning, Kamal Nath had repeatedly reprimanded the bureaucrats claiming that “severe action will be taken” against those who exhibit partisan behavior.

Earlier in a similar manner, Kamal Nath counterpart in Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot in December last year had also made a major shuffle after assuming Office. Gehlot led Government in Rajasthan had transferred 68 IAS officers, including 27 collectors.
