In the upcoming poll bound state of Madhya Pradesh, six parties, including Samajwadi Party have vowed an allegiance to the Congress.

The meeting between these parties was arranged to talk out an alliance against the BJP, which has been in power in Madhya Pradesh since 2003. The parties that met on Sunday were Janata Dal (LJD) leader, SP, Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist), Bahujan Sangharsh Dal (BSD), Gondwana Gantantra Party (GPP), Rashtriya Samanta Dal (RSD) and Prajatantrik Samadhan Party (PSP) and discussed the prospective alliance.

Six out of these eight parties were willing to lend their support to the Congress, however, CPI and CPI(M) are unwilling to join hands with Congress as they think that Congress is also playing a ‘soft’ Hindutva card. Since these parties are against any kind of communalism, they want to steer clear of any such alliance. CPI(M) leader Jaswant Singh said, “The Congress is pursuing a soft Hindutva agenda, while the BJP hard Hindutva. We see no difference between both the parties”.

“All the parties agreed to join hands, but the CPI and the CPI(M) disagreed to align with the Congress to take on the BJP in the upcoming polls,” LJD leader Govind Yadav told after the meeting. The parties will have a meeting again on October 7 to discuss again on the coalition of the parties, he added further.

LJD is out on support of Congress and wants it to lead the parties in forming a strong opposition against BJP. The LJD leader, Govind Yadav said, “The Congress, by virtue of being the main opposition party, should take the lead in forming the alliance as the time is running out”. The Congress party which had been looking for making a possible alliance with BSP, was disdained by the latter when it decided to go solo in the polls contesting lections on all 230 seats.

Samajwadi Party chief, Akhilesh Yadav had recently visited MP and held rallies in districts of Shahdol and Balaghat. There were rumours that he was looking to form an alliance with Congress.
