Narendra Modi, the Indian prime minister has won the online poll for TIME Person of the Year by beating all others in the list which included Donald Trump, Barack Obama, Julian Assange, Mark Zuckerberg etc.

Narendra Modi was preferred by 18% of the total voters as the most influential person of 2016. Others in the list gave a tough competition until recently, however, Narendra Modi gained a clear majority in the last couple of days. Talking of other nominations in the list, Donald Trump, Barack Obama and Julian Assange got 7% votes while Hillary Clinton and Mark Zuckerberg were voted by 4% and 2% votes respectively.

The official declaration will be done by a committee on December 7th and the final decision to announce TIME Person of the year might change, however, this online poll serves as an indication of how the world sees a particular person.

Narendra Modi has been in a lot of news lately. He has been on the good as well as on the bad radar for a lot of people. In September, he implemented the Paris Climate Change Agreement as well as his emerging image on the world front has done wonders to establish him as a competitive leader on the world stage. However, in last few weeks, he has been criticized a lot by the political opponents and a few sections of the society after he announced a ban on the notes of INR 500 and 1000.
