Top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Mohammad Naveed Jatt was gunned down on Wednesday in a joint encounter operation by security forces and local police. He was involved in the assassination of eminent Kashmiri journalist Shujaat Bukhari.

Bukhari was the editor-in-chief of Kashmir‘s leading English daily ‘Rising Kashmir’. He was shot by 3 biker terrorists at press enclave in Srinagar while he was coming out of his office and was about to board his car on June 14. His two personal security guards were also gunned down in the attack.

Naveed Jatt is a native of Pakistan and had escaped from police custody in Srinagar from Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital. It is believed that he was involved in several attacks on the security forces and civilians in Kashmir.

In a shoot-out between terrorists and security forces in Chathergam village in Budgam district of Kashmir, he was shot. Some terrorists are reportedly still taking a refuge in a house in the area.

The Kuthpora area of Budgam was surrounded by the security forces in the morning and a search operation carried out. The internet facilities in the area have been snapped as a safety measure by the government authorities.
