Congress Leader and Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Thursday thanked Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan after the latter in Pakistan Parliament made an announcement of releasing IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman and termed it is a goodwill gesture is a cup of joy for a billion people.

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman had on Wednesday morning ejected from his aircraft on PoK side after the MIG 21 shot down following Air Combat with Pakistan Air Force. He was later taken into custody by Pakistan Armed Forces.

Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu had been in the news for his comments after Pulwama Terror Attack. He said nations cannot be blamed for the actions of a few, reiterated his stand and said, “I stand by my deeply held principle that a community cannot be blamed for the actions of a few.”

On the on-going tension between India and Pakistan, Sidhu batted for the peace as the sole solution to de-escalate the tension between both the nation.

In another tweet, Cricketer-turned Politician Sidhu echoed the need for a dialogue to resolve the ongoing Indo-Pakistan conflict in a statement titled ‘We Have A Choice’

It is choice, not chance that determines a nation’s destiny, He said.

Meanwhile, Congress Party taking a sideline from the Sidhu’s comment saying “there’s a time to act and there’s a time to talk”. “If honourable Navjot Singh Sidhu has an opinion, it’s his personal opinion. It’s not the opinion of the Congress. The time is not conducive for a dialogue”, said Manish Tewari.

In another Development, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday said he wanted to receive Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman at the Wagha Border on Friday when he will come back to the nation.

He said on tweet had made after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday announced in Pakistan Parliament that they will release IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan.

Punjab Chief Minister Singh tweeted, ‘Dear @narendramodi ji, I’m touring the border areas of Punjab & I’m presently in Amritsar. Came to know that @pid_gov has decided to release #AbhinandanVartaman from Wagha. It will be an honour for me to go and receive him, as he and his father are alumnus of the NDA as I am.
